Al Rabi Hiking Trail is a mountain route above Khorfakkan in the Emirate of Sharjah, starting at Al Rabi Tower. The route is approximately 4–5 km for the round trip. The climb is moderate and takes an estimated two to three hours, making it a substantial outing rather than a brief walk. Allow time for the uphill sections, pauses at the rest stops and the return along the route. The zigzagging path follows the mountain’s slope, and its marked course helps hikers stay on the trail.

Views of the Gulf of Oman are one of the rewards of the climb. As you make your way up, the route provides opportunities to pause and look out across the coastline. The route begins at Al Rabi Tower, which was built in 1915 as part of Khorfakkan’s defensive network. The tower gives the trailhead a connection to the town’s past, while the path itself leads hikers onto the mountain above it. Visitor information

Plan for a moderate hike and bring plenty of water for the route. Sturdy hiking shoes or boots are recommended for walking the mountain path; take a hat and sunblock as well. A few parking spaces are available near the trail start, and additional parking is available lower down the hill. Spaces near the start can fill quickly, while parking lower down adds walking distance before reaching the trailhead. The trail is open daily from 4:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Getting there

From Khorfakkan, follow the uphill access road to Al Rabi Tower, where the trail begins. The trail is about 24 km from Fujairah city centre and about 65 km from Ras Al Khaimah city centre. Parking near the tower is limited, with additional spaces lower down the hill, so factor in extra walking if you park below. Taxis and ride-hailing apps operate across the UAE and can be used to reach the area.
