Al Bidya Mosque, also known as the Ottoman Mosque, is a cultural heritage destination in Fujairah. Set in Al Bidya, it remains an active place of prayer, so its historic architecture and present-day religious use are both part of the visit.

What to expect

The mosque’s roof is formed by four domes supported by a pillar at the centre of the building. Small openings in the walls let light and air into the interior, while the mosque has no minaret. These details give the building a distinctive form and provide visitors with clear architectural features to observe. Take time to notice how the central support relates to the domed roof and how the wall openings are set into the structure.

Al Bidya Mosque continues to welcome worshippers. Its character is therefore not limited to its heritage architecture: it is also a functioning place of worship. Visitors can appreciate the building while being considerate of people who are there to pray and following any local instructions. Non-Muslim visitors may visit when dressed modestly; access can depend on local instructions and prayer times.

The mosque is in Al Bidya, on the coastal route between Fujairah and Dibba. Its setting makes it a heritage stop for people exploring this part of Fujairah, as well as a destination in its own right for visitors interested in the emirate’s cultural places. The visit focuses on the mosque itself: its domes, central pillar, wall openings and continuing role as a place of worship.

History and background

The mosque was believed to be built in 1446 AD. The building was restored and reopened in March 2003. It is also known as the Ottoman Mosque. Together, its estimated construction date and restoration provide context for a historic building that remains in religious use today.
