From humble beginnings as a small international school in Dubai with just 17 children in a modest apartment building, JESS has grown into one of the most respected names in private education in UAE. The journey began in the mid-1970s when expatriate families moved to the Middle East to support the growing oil industry. With this rapid expansion, the need for quality British curriculum schools in Dubai and affordable expat education in UAE became essential for English-speaking families seeking strong academic foundations for their children.
JESS was first established in 1975 in a building near Deira Clock Tower. Within just one year, and with support from a land grant gifted by HH Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai, the school relocated to a villa in Jumeirah. This move marked the beginning of JESS Jumeirah’s transformation into a highly regarded primary school in Dubai, known today for academic excellence and holistic development.
In 2005, growing demand for places in international schools in UAE led to the development of a new campus in Arabian Ranches. This purpose-built site, located in one of Dubai’s emerging residential communities, now hosts both primary and secondary education, strengthening JESS as a complete learning ecosystem. Together, it forms the foundation of “three schools, two campuses, one JESS,” a model of excellence in British curriculum education in Dubai.
